VTi is a badge, not an engine — PSA's word for a naturally aspirated petrol, on Peugeot, Citroën and DS in this catalogue.
⚑ Its turbocharged counterpart is THP, and on the 1.6 the two are the same engine family. The Peugeot 308 was sold with a 1.6 EP6 VTi and a 1.6 EP6DT THP in the same brochure — one block, one badge apart, with a turbocharger between them. A boost diagnosis on a VTi is work on a part that is not fitted, and a fault-code list read from a THP of the same size names circuits this car has never had.
Which engine depends on the displacement and the year:

EP3, the Prince's smaller relative, and the olderTU3JP. - 1.6 —
TU5/TU5JP4on the earlier cars, andEC5on the Chinese-built ones. Three unrelated families under one badge at one displacement.
⚑ VTi also belongs to another marque entirely. MG writes VTi-Tech on its N-series 13S4C and 15S4C, which share nothing with PSA's engines but the three letters. A search for "1.5 VTi" finds an MG; a search for "1.6 VTi" finds a Peugeot, and no part crosses between them.
⚑ The Prince engine's timing chain is the thing to know about the 1.6. A 2013 service bulletin covers failing chains and tensioners, both designed by BMW, and it applies to the naturally aspirated engine as much as the turbocharged one.
