Wat te doen
Have this looked at promptly even if the car drives normally. Swinging current usually means a loose or corroded high-voltage connection, which gets hotter the longer it is used. Mention any recent battery or high-voltage work when you book it in.
Wat deze code betekent
The current flowing in and out of the traction battery, taken as a whole system, is outside its expected range.
This is a system-level code rather than a sensor code, and the distinction decides where to look. The sensors at P0AFB and P0B0E measure current at particular points. This one is the conclusion drawn from all of them together — the module has added up what it knows and the total does not make sense.
A system code with no sensor codes beside it is the interesting case, because it means every individual measurement is plausible and only their combination is wrong. That points at something between the measuring points: a connection, a cable, or a load nobody is measuring.
"Unstable" is the most diagnostically useful word in this family, and it is worth separating from "too high" and "too low". A current that is simply wrong can be a sensor with an offset. A current that oscillates cannot — a sensor with a fault reads wrong steadily, or fails outright. Something that swings is describing a real electrical event.
That event is nearly always a connection. A high-voltage joint that is loose or corroded has a resistance that changes with temperature, vibration and the current through it, so the current through it wanders — and the wander gets worse as the joint heats, which is a runaway rather than a steady state. This is the code that finds a bus bar bolt that was never torqued properly at the last pack repair.
It deserves attention sooner than its symptoms suggest, because a high-current joint that is heating is how packs catch fire.
