Dashboard gauges not working
Gauges reading zero, sticking, or a dashboard that is blank or partly dead. On a modern vehicle the cluster is a computer that renders values arriving as messages rather than a set of gauges wired to sensors, so this usually points at the cluster or its supply rather than at the sensors it appears to be reporting. A car with a dead fuel gauge, a dead temperature gauge and a dead rev counter has one fault, not three.
The compounding risk is what goes with it: every warning the car can give — oil pressure, temperature, charging, brakes — is a lamp on this dashboard, so a dead cluster means faults can no longer announce themselves. Treat a blank or partly dead cluster as urgent for that reason rather than for the inconvenience.
