Started after the car stood unused
The car sat for weeks or months and has not been the same since being woken up. Standing still is genuinely hard on a car, and several unrelated things go wrong at once for the same reason: the battery self-discharges and may never fully recover, brake discs surface-rust and the pads can bond to them, fuel goes stale and diesel grows a bacterial sludge, seals that were holding pressure dry out and take a while to swell back. Expect more than one fault and do not chase them as though they were connected. Most settle within a few hundred miles; the battery usually does not.

What this usually means
Standing still is genuinely hard on a car, and several unrelated things go wrong at once for the same reason. That is the most useful thing to know before diagnosing any of them: expect more than one fault and do not chase them as though they were connected.
The battery is the one that usually does not recover. Modern vehicles draw a quiescent current continuously, so a battery left connected for months is deeply discharged — and a lead-acid battery that has sat deeply discharged sulphates, losing capacity permanently. It may start the car and still be finished.
Fuel degrades within months rather than years. German references are direct about it: petrol and diesel age chemically in a tank that is not a proper storage vessel, and diesel additionally grows a microbial sludge in the water that condenses at the bottom. A car that runs badly after standing and improves over a tankful was running on stale fuel; one that does not improve has a blocked filter or a fouled injector from the same cause.
Brakes rust in days, not months. Cast iron discs develop surface rust within days of damp, and pads can bond to them — so the first drive produces a graunching that usually cleans off in a few stops. What does not clean off is a caliper that has seized, and that is the version to check for rather than assume.
Tyres take a set where the car's weight has stood on them, producing a vibration that often eases as they warm and sometimes does not.
And seals dry out and take a while to swell back, so a car that weeps oil or coolant for the first week is doing something ordinary. Most of it settles within a few hundred miles; the battery usually does not.
