What to do

Ask for the connector to be unplugged, cleaned and dried before any part is ordered. This sensor sits where oil mist collects by design, and oil creeping into the connector is the commonest cause — often the entire repair.

Ask why the oil got there. If the oil separator is passing or a seal is weeping, the connector fills up again — so the source matters as much as the clean.

Mention if the fault came and went before becoming permanent, which fits oil contamination building up gradually.

The car will usually drive normally, but this sensor watches for engine wear and breather blockage, so it is worth having working.

What this code means

The crankcase pressure sensor's signal is below the lowest voltage the circuit should produce.

A signal below the valid range is an electrical statement rather than a pressure one. These sensors are specified so that even the lowest real pressure keeps a comfortable margin above zero volts — that margin exists precisely so the module can tell a broken circuit from an extreme reading.

So this is a wiring fault until proven otherwise, and the three candidates are a short to ground, an open signal wire, or a collapsed reference supply.

Oil is the location-specific cause and it deserves naming first. This sensor is mounted on or near the cam cover, in the path of oil mist by definition — it is measuring the space that oil vapour lives in. Oil wicking along the wires into the connector bridges terminals and pulls the signal down, and it does so gradually, which is why these faults often start intermittent.

Clean and dry the connector before condemning anything, and then find out why oil reached it — a separator passing more than it should, or a weeping seal. The connector will simply fill again otherwise.

Unplugging the sensor separates harness from element in a minute. A circuit that stays low with the sensor disconnected is a wiring or module fault rather than a sensor.
