P0717: Input/Turbine Shaft Speed Sensor A Circuit No Signal
What to do
Expect a fixed gear and no torque converter lock-up. Ask whether the removed sensor had metal on its tip, and if it did, ask what the fluid and filter looked like — that answer matters more than the sensor itself.
What this code means
No input shaft speed signal at all where one is definitely expected — the vehicle is moving and the shaft must be turning. An open circuit, a failed sensor, or a reluctor ring that has lost teeth or come adrift.
One cause deserves attention beyond its frequency: metallic debris collected on the sensor tip. These sensors work magnetically, and a transmission that is wearing internally circulates fine metal in its fluid, which accumulates on the nearest magnet. A sensor blinded that way is reporting the consequence of a larger problem, so finding the tip furred with metal is a reason to look at the fluid and the filter rather than to fit a new sensor and consider the job closed.
