P0894: Transmission Component Slipping
Do not keep driving
Stop driving it and have it recovered. Slip destroys the very component that is slipping, and it does so quickly — the difference between a repairable fault and a rebuild is often just the miles covered after this code appeared. Ask which specific element was identified, since one named component is frequently a much smaller job than a full rebuild.
What this code means
A specific element inside the transmission — a clutch or a band — is slipping rather than holding. This is the same measurement that underlies P0730, reported at the level of the component rather than the gear, and everything argued there applies here without change: verify the speed sensors, then fluid and pressure, then the solenoids, and only then accept internal wear.
What this code adds is precision about which element. That is worth having, because a single named element is often repairable without a full rebuild, and because it distinguishes a contained fault from a transmission that is generally worn out. The two get quoted identically and should not be.
The urgency comes from what slip does. Every second of it converts drive into heat at the friction surface, glazing the material and cooking the fluid, so the damage compounds with each journey. A transmission caught early enough for a fluid, filter and pressure repair becomes one needing a rebuild largely as a function of how far it was driven afterwards.

Information, not instruction
CarGeek is a reference, not a service manual. Its pages are written from public sources and from what other people have found, never from a manufacturer's own service information, so they can be wrong or incomplete for your particular vehicle. Some of what they describe carries real risk: high voltage, fuel under pressure, stored energy, hot and moving parts.
Have anything you intend to act on checked by a trained person against the manufacturer's own procedure for your vehicle. Nothing here replaces that procedure.

Nothing posted about this yet. Whatever you found is worth writing down — even a dead end saves someone the same afternoon.
What makes one worth reading:
- The car — make, model, year and engine. The same fault behaves differently on each.
- What you measured, not only what you replaced.
- What actually fixed it — or that nothing did, which is worth knowing too.
