This is not the same as the calibration simply not having been run — the routine has run and produced a figure the car will not accept, which points at how the sensor is physically fitted rather than at software. If work has recently been done on the motor or its sensor, say so. Re-running the routine repeatedly in the hope it passes is the wrong move: the value is implausible for a reason.

What this code means

The learning routine for drive motor A's position sensor completed, and produced a value outside the range the manufacturer allows.

This is P0C17's more worrying sibling, and the pair is worth reading together. P0C17 says the calibration has not been done. This says it was done and came back with an answer that cannot be right.

A routine that refuses is safer than a routine that succeeds with a bad number, because a refusal stops the car using it. Here the measurement is inside the software and outside physical plausibility, which means the geometry it measured is genuinely wrong rather than merely unknown.

That narrows the causes to physical ones. The sensor is not mounted where it should be — many resolvers are adjustable within a slot, and one refitted without being set is the usual answer. The rotor has moved on its shaft, which is rare and serious. Or the sensor is failing in a way that shifts its output rather than breaking it.

The practical warning: do not simply re-run the routine until it passes. If it is producing an implausible offset there is a reason, and forcing a value the car will then drive on is how a marginal fit becomes a machine running permanently mistimed.
