The code names both sensors and blames neither — if a quote replaces one, ask how it was established which is at fault, because there is a real test and "the code mentions it" is not it. If the 12-volt battery has been flat, or a battery warning has appeared on a battery that measured fine, this and P0C38 are the two explanations that leave the battery innocent.

What this code means

The two current sensors on the 14 volt power module are measuring the same current and reporting different answers.

Sensor A is at P0A86, sensor B at P0C9C, and this is the code the pair exists to produce — the low-voltage twin of the traction pack's correlation check at P0B13, and it carries the same honest limitation. It reports a disagreement, not a verdict. Which of the two is lying needs a third opinion: a clamp meter on the battery lead, or the simple observation that a battery being charged should be gaining voltage.

What the pair is guarding is worth restating, because it is easy to think of as a minor measurement. These sensors are how the car knows whether the 12-volt battery is being filled or drained — and therefore whether it will start tomorrow. A drifting sensor does not announce itself; it quietly changes the car's belief about its own battery.

Which makes this code the one that catches an otherwise invisible fault, and the reason not to treat a battery warning on a healthy battery as a glitch.
