Hybrid/EV Battery Pack Current Sensor
Measures the current flowing into and out of the traction battery. Distinct from the motor current sensors, which watch what the inverter delivers to a machine — this one watches the pack itself, and it is doing a different job.
That job is arithmetic, not monitoring. State of charge is not something a battery exposes: there is no float and no dipstick, and voltage alone is a poor guide under load. So the module counts instead, integrating current over time — adding everything that goes in, subtracting everything that comes out — and the running total is the charge figure the entire car depends on.
Which makes the consequences of a fault unusual. A sensor that reads a little high does not produce an obviously wrong number; it produces a slowly accumulating error, because every sample is added to a total. Nothing contradicts it until a full charge or a deep discharge forces a recalibration. That is why packs carry two of these and compare them: a single sensor drifting is undetectable, and two disagreeing is not.
The symptoms are never about current. They are a charge display that jumps, an electric range that no longer matches reality, or a hybrid that stops using its battery.
