P0D2A: Battery Charger Input Current Too High

Stop using the charge point that trips. Repeated tripping is the protection working, and forcing it with a higher-rated breaker would be dangerous. Have the car checked before charging again at full current, and look at the charge connector for any sign of heat discolouration.

What this code means

The alternating current the charger is drawing from the supply is above its limit.

This is the direction that trips things. A charger drawing more than the supply is rated for will pop a breaker, and the owner's experience is a car that "keeps tripping the electrics" — often blamed on the house.

It matters more than it sounds, because the limit is a safety limit rather than a preference. The charge point states what its cable and wiring can carry, and a charger exceeding it is heating conductors that were never sized for the current. That is the mechanism behind melted charge connectors, which are a real and photographed failure rather than a theoretical one.

The cause is often the sensor rather than the charger — the input current sensor at P0D38 reading low makes the charger believe it has headroom it does not have, so it pushes further. That inversion is worth holding onto: a charger drawing too much may be a measurement fault, and replacing the charger leaves the sensor still lying.
