Rough idle, stalling or hard starting alongside this code is the camshaft pinned where it should only visit — worth prompt attention rather than tolerance. The wiring and the solenoid winding are still the quick first tests.

What this code means

The intake camshaft actuator's control circuit reads high — and this is the direction with teeth, because a line shorted to a supply can drive the solenoid continuously.

A solenoid held on pins the camshaft at its full-travel position, and full advance or retard is a timing the engine is only meant to visit briefly at specific speeds. Held there always, the engine idles roughly or stalls, may be hard to start — and on some designs a camshaft parked at the extreme brings valves and pistons closer than comfortable. The fail-safe logic of P2088 does not apply: this is the failure mode the spring-return cannot rescue, because the circuit is actively fighting the spring.

Same short suspect list as the Low variant, opposite polarity: wiring shorted to voltage, the module's driver stage, the winding.
