P0011: Camshaft Position A — Timing Over-Advanced or System Performance (Bank 1)
What to do
Check the oil level and when it was last changed before anything else — a surprising share of these codes are cured by a service with the correct grade of oil.
What this code means
The intake camshaft on bank 1 is further advanced than the module asked for, or is not responding to commands at all. This is one of the most frequently misdiagnosed codes in the standard, because the instinct is to replace the actuator when the actual problem is usually oil: the solenoid screen clogged with sludge, the wrong viscosity, or an oil change long overdue. Variable timing runs on oil pressure, and it fails the way an oil-pressure system fails.
