P2197: O2 Sensor Signal Biased/Stuck Lean Bank 2 Sensor 1
What to do
As P2195 — expect heavy fuel use rather than a lean-running complaint, because a sensor stuck saying lean makes the engine add fuel indefinitely. Ask whether the two upstream sensors can be swapped between banks as a test. If the fault follows the sensor, it is the sensor; if it stays on this bank, it is the exhaust or wiring on this side and a new sensor would not have fixed it. That is a few minutes of labour against the price of a part.
What this code means
The stuck-lean condition described at P2195, on the upstream sensor of the second cylinder bank.
One consideration is specific to having two banks, and it is a cheap and decisive test that is very rarely offered: the two upstream sensors are usually the same part, so they can be swapped between banks. If the stuck reading moves to bank 1 with the sensor, the sensor is faulty. If the stuck reading stays on bank 2 with a known-good sensor in it, the fault is the exhaust, the wiring or the engine on that side, and a new sensor would have changed nothing.
That test takes minutes and settles the most common ambiguity in this family outright. It is worth asking for by name.
The caution attached to it is that a swap must be recorded. A sensor moved between banks and left there carries its behaviour with it, and a later diagnosis reading the codes without knowing about the swap will reach the wrong conclusion.
