P2555: Throttle/Fuel Inhibit A Circuit High
What to do
The car will start and drive completely normally, which is exactly why this is worth acting on rather than ignoring. Two protections may have quietly stopped working: the immobiliser's ability to prevent the engine running for a wrong key, and on many vehicles the fuel cut that operates after a crash. Neither shows up in day-to-day use and neither is something to discover at the moment it was needed. The usual finding is a disconnected or corroded connector.
What this code means
The inhibit circuit reads above its valid range — an open circuit, a disconnected connector, or a short to supply.
An open inhibit line means the inhibit can never be asserted, and nothing about driving the car will reveal that. The engine starts and runs perfectly. What has gone is the ability of the anti-theft system to withhold fuel from an unrecognised key, and — where the same circuit carries it — the post-impact fuel cut that stops the pump feeding a leak after a crash.
So this is a code with no symptom and a real consequence, and the second of those two functions is the one that argues for fixing it promptly rather than filing it. It is the same shape as P2547 and its neighbours across this range: something that only matters occasionally has stopped being available, and the only warning is the code itself.
