P2612: Air Conditioning Refrigerant Distribution Valve A Control Circuit Low
What to do
Nothing mechanically wrong and nothing to worry about while driving. You will get cooling in one part of the vehicle and not the other.
Ask for the wiring to be traced before the valve is replaced. The cable to a rear air conditioning unit runs the whole length of the car, under the sill trim and along the floor, and it gets crushed by seat bolts or soaked by a wet floor far more often than the valve fails. The valve itself is usually behind trim and expensive to reach, so it is worth ruling the loom out first.
Worth mentioning if it applies: seats removed or refitted, heavy loads in the back, or any damp in the footwells or boot. All three land on exactly that loom.
What this code means
The refrigerant distribution valve's control circuit reads below its valid range — normally a short to ground, or a module output that has failed low.
What the valve does and why one zone cooling while another does not is a routing fault rather than a gas fault is explained at P2611.
The shorted-to-ground case has a location worth naming, because it is where these looms actually get damaged. The cabling for a rear air conditioning unit runs the length of the vehicle, and it does so through the two places most likely to be crushed or soaked: under the sill trim, where seat rails and anchor bolts are fitted, and along the floor beneath the load area. A seat removed and refitted, a heavy load shifting in the back, or a floor that has been wet from a blocked drain or a failed seal will all reach that loom in a way nothing in the engine bay is exposed to.
So a short here is usually mechanical damage at a findable point rather than a component failure, and tracing the loom is a better first move than replacing a valve buried behind trim.
