U0081: Vehicle Communication Bus F Performance
What to do
Everything may still work, and this is worth attending to now — see U0011 for why an error rate is an early warning rather than a nuisance.
But on a converted or commercial vehicle there is a particular explanation worth knowing, because it means the wiring may be undamaged and still be the problem.
A vehicle's network is a carefully shaped line, and equipment connected to it on a long cable makes the signal bounce back and interfere with itself. That corrupts messages when the network is busy, while every ordinary test looks perfect.
And a converted vehicle is exactly where long cables come from. Body equipment gets mounted where the body needs it — a tail-lift at the back, a crane in the middle, a tipper valve under the bed — and the cable to each is as long as the vehicle requires.
So this may not be a fault to find. It may be a layout to change — and that is the converter's job rather than a general workshop's. They can fit a repeater, split the network, or relocate a connection so the tail is short.
Mention it in those terms when you call them, because a garage looking for a bad connection may be looking for something that is not there.

Those combine into the clearest case of U0037's argument in the whole range.
U0037 explains that a network is a shaped transmission line, and that a device connected on a long tail reflects signals back down it — corrupting messages under traffic while leaving every static measurement correct.
A converted vehicle is where long tails come from. Body equipment is mounted where the body needs it, not where the wiring would prefer — a tail-lift controller at the rear, a crane at the centre, a tipper valve block under the bed — and the cable to each of them is as long as the vehicle requires.
So a performance code on a converted vehicle should be read as a question about layout rather than damage. The wiring may be undamaged, correctly made and entirely at fault, because of how far it has to reach.
Which is a real problem with a real answer, and it belongs to the converter: a repeater, a separate network segment, or moving a node so its tail is short. It is not something a general workshop can fix by finding a bad connection, because there may not be one.
