The car drives normally. Expect part of the sound system to work and part not to — some speakers or the subwoofer silent while others play.
That partial pattern is worth reporting, because it points at one amplifier rather than at the head unit, and those are very different repairs.
If any aftermarket audio has been fitted — a subwoofer, an extra amplifier, a sound upgrade — start there. On a modern car these are not simple speaker connections, and an installation that interrupts the audio network or loads its supply will knock factory equipment off it. Disconnecting the added equipment and re-testing is free and often identifies the cause outright.
Otherwise, look for damp. Amplifiers sit under seats or behind boot trim, which is exactly where spilt drinks, wet feet and leaking boot or rear light seals end up. Water in the connector gives this code with a perfectly good amplifier attached — and a new one fitted without fixing the leak will go the same way.

A second amplifier means the system splits its channels across more than one box, typically a main amplifier for the cabin and a second for a subwoofer or a rear zone. The useful consequence is that the symptom is partial rather than total: some speakers work and others do not, which is quite unlike a head unit failure and worth reporting as such.
Everything at U0238 about where amplifiers live and why they fail applies here in full — under a seat, behind a boot trim panel, in a wheel arch void, which is to say in the path of spilt drinks, wet feet and leaking boot or rear light seals. Water into an amplifier's connector produces a lost communication code with a perfectly good amplifier behind it, and replacing it without finding the leak ruins the next one.
One thing specific to a second amplifier is worth adding, because it is a common and avoidable cause: aftermarket audio. A subwoofer or extra amplifier fitted later is very often tapped into the factory system's wiring, and on a networked system that is not a matter of splicing speaker wires — an installation that interrupts the ring, loads the supply, or introduces electrical noise takes factory modules off the network. The corpus's standing point about added equipment holding a bus down applies directly.
So a vehicle with aftermarket audio and this code should be tested with that equipment disconnected before anything factory-fitted is suspected.
