Wat te doen
Expect the car to feel slightly flat and to use a little more fuel, rather than anything dramatic. The engine protects itself by backing off its ignition timing when it cannot listen for knocking, which costs performance and economy but no damage.
Mention any work done under the intake manifold or around the engine block. These sensors are buried, and a connector left unclipped after other work is a genuine cause.
If the sensor is replaced, ask that it is torqued to the specification. It sounds fussy and it is not — these sensors only work when clamped exactly right, and one that is over- or under-tightened reports nonsense while looking perfectly fitted.
Mention any pinking or rattling under load, especially on a hot day or with cheaper fuel, since that changes the picture from an inconvenience to something worth acting on quickly.
Wat deze code betekent
The circuit for the third knock sensor is faulty. What a knock sensor does, and why an engine cannot safely run at its best without one, is at P0325.
The letter is the reason this page exists separately, because a third sensor tells you something about the engine. Two sensors is one per bank, the ordinary arrangement on a V6 or V8. A third means the engine is long enough that one sensor per bank cannot hear all of its cylinders — a V12, a long straight six, or a large V8 where the outer cylinders are too far from a central sensor to be heard reliably through the block.
The second name in the title is not decorative either. Combustion vibration sensor is what these become on some diesels, where the same piezo element is used the other way round: not to catch abnormal combustion, but to hear normal combustion happening at all — confirming each injection actually burned, and where in the cycle it did. On such an engine this sensor is part of injection timing rather than of knock protection, which changes what its failure costs.
What the module does without it is give away performance to stay safe. Knock is destructive within seconds, so an engine that cannot listen retards its ignition timing as a blanket precaution and stops using the aggressive timing it would otherwise adapt to. Nothing feels broken; it is simply slower and thirstier than it was, and on a turbocharged engine boost may be limited as well.
Diagnostically, the two things worth knowing are both mechanical. These sensors are torqued to a specification, and it is unusually specific — too loose and vibration does not couple through, too tight and the element is preloaded into nonsense. And they sit low on the block or under the intake manifold, where they are reached only by removing something substantial, so a connector disturbed by earlier work is a real possibility.
