Regelmodule geautomatiseerd rijden
The module that fuses camera, radar and vehicle motion into a single picture of the road, and asks the steering and braking systems to act on it.
The word to hold on to is fuses. It does not have its own eyes — a camera behind the windscreen and one or more radars behind the bumper feed it, and its whole job is deciding what to believe when they disagree. A camera reads lane markings and recognises shapes; radar measures distance and closing speed accurately in weather that blinds a camera. Neither is sufficient alone, and the module's value is in reconciling them.
It does not control anything directly. It requests — steering torque from the power steering module, deceleration from the braking module — and those modules check every request against what the vehicle is actually doing before obeying. That refusal is the safety architecture, and it is why an implausible-data fault here shuts the whole system down rather than degrading quietly.
Which makes calibration the dominant maintenance fact about it. A camera or radar that has been disturbed and not recalibrated aims at a different part of the road than the module believes, and the system still operates — which is worse than it being switched off. Windscreen replacement, bumper or grille work, suspension geometry changes and even a low-speed parking knock all reach its sensors.
It is among the most expensive modules on a vehicle, and it is usually innocent. The faults that name it are far more often calibration, obstruction, or software updated on one module and not another.
