Engine cuts out when fuel is low
Hesitation, loss of power or cutting out that arrives at roughly the same point on the fuel gauge every time and is cured completely by filling up — often brought on by cornering, braking or a climb at that level. Worth reporting precisely, because it is very nearly a diagnosis on its own: many tanks are moulded in two halves around a propshaft or exhaust, with a second pump moving fuel across, and when that pump fails the car starves with the other half still full. The complaint is routinely investigated as a failing main pump, a blocked filter or a sensor, all of which then test perfectly.

What this usually means
This is very nearly a diagnosis before anyone opens the bonnet, and the reason is the shape of the tank. Many tanks are moulded in two halves that straddle a propshaft tunnel or an exhaust, with the pickup and main pump in one half and a small transfer pump moving fuel across from the other. When that transfer pump fails, the car starves with the second half still full — and the gauge, which usually reads both halves, shows fuel remaining.
That is why the complaint is so consistently misdiagnosed. It presents as fuel starvation, so the main pump, the filter and the level sender are all investigated — and all three test perfectly, because none of them has failed. The car is then returned with no fault found, and starves again at the same point on the gauge.
The pattern is the evidence and it is very specific. It arrives at roughly the same gauge reading every time. It is brought on by cornering, braking or a climb at that level, because those are what let the pickup uncover. And filling up cures it completely, immediately, every time — which is the observation to ask for directly, because drivers frequently do not mention it, having assumed it obvious.
A simpler version exists and should be excluded first: a pickup strainer partly blocked, or a level sender reading high so the driver believes there is more fuel than there is. Both produce starvation near empty; neither survives filling the tank either.
