Operates a sunroof, panoramic glass roof or targa panel.

Its most important property is that it stores a learned position. The module tracks the panel by counting motor revolutions from a reference rather than reading an absolute sensor, so it must be initialised — driven to its end stops so it learns where they are. Losing power, changing the battery or replacing the module erases that, and the panel then refuses to move or moves incorrectly until the procedure is run. A sunroof that stops working after unrelated electrical work is very often an initialisation away from being fine, and that is usually a sequence of holding the switch rather than anything needing a scan tool.

Water is the other half of the story, and here it is the central risk rather than a side effect. A glass roof sits in a tray with drain tubes running down each pillar; those block with pollen and leaf litter, and the tray then overflows into the headlining and down the pillars — directly onto the module and the roof loom. A damp headlining, wet pillar trim or water in a footwell after rain is the tell, and it changes the whole diagnosis: replacing a soaked module without clearing the drains simply ruins the next one.
