P0806: Clutch Position Sensor A Circuit Range/Performance

What to do

Take-up will be poor or absent. If a workshop proposes replacing the actuator, ask whether the sensor was verified to be reading correctly first — a stuck actuator and a stuck sensor look identical from the code alone.

What this code means

The clutch position signal is present but implausible — a value outside the travel the clutch physically has, or one that does not change when the actuator is commanded to move.

A position that never changes deserves particular attention, because it has two very different explanations: a sensor that has failed in place, or an actuator that is genuinely not moving. The sensor is reporting accurately in the second case. Commanding the actuator through its travel while watching the reported position separates them, and it is worth doing before the more expensive of the two is replaced.

Information, not instruction

CarGeek is a reference, not a service manual. Its pages are written from public sources and from what other people have found, never from a manufacturer's own service information, so they can be wrong or incomplete for your particular vehicle. Some of what they describe carries real risk: high voltage, fuel under pressure, stored energy, hot and moving parts.

Have anything you intend to act on checked by a trained person against the manufacturer's own procedure for your vehicle. Nothing here replaces that procedure.

Nothing posted about this yet. Whatever you found is worth writing down — even a dead end saves someone the same afternoon.

What makes one worth reading:

  • The car — make, model, year and engine. The same fault behaves differently on each.
  • What you measured, not only what you replaced.
  • What actually fixed it — or that nothing did, which is worth knowing too.
