What to do
Often a sign the clutch is nearing the end of its life rather than a component having failed. Ask for the clutch adaptation values to be read — they show how much compensation the system has already used up, and that is the closest thing to a fuel gauge for clutch wear. A relearn may improve things temporarily and is worth trying first.
What this code means
The clutch did not reach the position it was commanded to. Every circuit is healthy and the sensor is believable; what has failed is the match between instruction and result.
The reason this code deserves more than a circuit description is that it is frequently a wear indicator rather than a fault. A clutch's bite point moves as its friction material thins, so the actuator has to travel progressively further to achieve the same engagement. Modules compensate for this automatically through an adaptation that shifts the commanded positions to follow the wear — but the adaptation has a limit, and when it is exhausted the module can no longer reach the position it needs. That is what this code often means: the clutch has worn past what the system can compensate for.
Two practical consequences. First, a clutch adaptation or relearn procedure sometimes restores normal behaviour, and it is worth attempting before parts are ordered — though on a genuinely worn clutch it will buy months rather than years. Second, if the adaptation is already at its limit, that is a measurable number a scan tool can display, and it answers how much clutch life remains far more honestly than a road test does.
