P0955: Auto Shift Manual Mode Circuit
What to do
Check whether the dashboard shows manual mode engaging when you select it. If it never shows, the fault is in the mode switch; if it shows but the paddles do nothing, the fault is in the paddles. That one observation saves a diagnosis.
What this code means
A circuit fault in the switch that puts the transmission into manual mode, as distinct from the paddles that then request individual gears.
Separating the two is worth doing, because they fail differently and the symptoms are easy to confuse. A mode circuit fault means the gearbox never enters manual mode at all, so the paddles do nothing because nothing is listening. A control circuit fault means manual mode engages normally and then ignores the requests. Whether the dashboard shows the mode as active is what distinguishes them, and it costs nothing to look.
