P2160: Vehicle Speed Sensor B Circuit Low
What to do
The car will usually drive normally. Ask for the harness to be inspected along its length rather than just at the sensor — these wires run low on the vehicle where road salt and stone damage reach them, and a chafed wire is a cheaper repair than the sensor it is blamed on.
What this code means
The second vehicle speed signal reads below its valid range — normally a short to ground, or a sensor producing no output at all while the circuit stays intact.
What the second speed source is for, and why losing it rarely stops the car, is set out under P2158. This variant adds one useful distinction: a circuit reading low is different from a circuit reading implausible. Low means the module is seeing a voltage that no working sensor could produce at any road speed, including zero. That rules out the calibration explanations — tyre sizes, reluctor damage, a drifted signal — that dominate the range/performance code at P2159, and points the diagnosis at wiring rather than at the vehicle.
Speed sensors sit low on the vehicle, at the gearbox or in a wheel bearing, which is the wettest and most abraded environment any signal wire lives in. Harness damage is therefore genuinely common here in a way it is not for a sensor mounted on top of the engine.
