P2650: B Rocker Arm Actuator Control Circuit Open Bank 1
What to do
As with the rest of this family, check the oil level and service history first — these actuators run on engine oil pressure through fine screens, and a neglected oil change produces these codes on healthy hardware.
One thing to confirm before a part is ordered: what the A and B actuators are on your particular engine. The letters are chosen by the manufacturer rather than by any standard, so they mean different things on different engines, and a part ordered on the wrong assumption fits nothing useful.
What this code means
An open circuit in the control of the B rocker arm actuator on bank 1. The mechanism is at P2645.
What B refers to is not standardised, and assuming it is has cost people parts. Depending on the engine it may be the exhaust-side actuator where A is the intake side, a second stage of lift, or simply a second group of cylinders on a deactivation system. The letters are assigned by the manufacturer, not by the standard — the same warning the corpus gives about shift solenoid letters at P0760, and it matters for the same reason: a part ordered on the assumption that B means what it meant on another engine will be the wrong part.
Which letters a vehicle has is worth noticing, though, because it says what the system can do. More actuators means more independently controllable valves or more cylinders that can be shut down — and a bigger, more integrated assembly behind them when the mechanical end does eventually need attention.
