U0421: Invalid Data Received From Suspension Control Module A
What to do
First, look at how the car is sitting. If it is level and at normal height, this is much less urgent — expect a firmer or less comfortable ride while the system runs on a default setting.
If the car has settled, or is sitting low at one corner, take more care. You have less ground clearance than usual, the car may be resting on its bump stops, and it will handle differently. Avoid speed humps, kerbs and rough ground, and get it seen — a vehicle left sitting on its stops can damage its own suspension.
If it is an air suspension system, be aware it may settle overnight and be low in the morning. Some vehicles will re-level once running; some will not.
The usual cause is one of the ride height sensors rather than the module. They sit down at the suspension arms in the road spray and salt, moving constantly, with small links that corrode and break — much commoner and much cheaper than the module.
And if any suspension work or spring change has been done, mention it — these sensors have to be recalibrated to the car's correct height afterwards, and skipping that gives exactly this.

A suspension control module manages adaptive damping, air suspension, or both, and what it publishes is ride height at each corner, damper settings, and whether the system is able to maintain its position.
Air suspension is where this code has real consequences, and they are worth separating from adaptive damping. A vehicle on adaptive dampers with an untrustworthy report simply reverts to a fixed damper setting — firmer or softer than ideal, but entirely safe. A vehicle on air springs is holding its body up with air, and a system that cannot verify its ride height may stop maintaining it.
The consequence is a vehicle that settles overnight, or sinks at one corner — and the practical risks follow directly: reduced ground clearance, a car resting on its bump stops, and on a vehicle low enough, damage to the underside or the springs themselves. A vehicle that has settled unevenly also handles differently and may catch its bodywork on kerbs.
So the first practical question is which system the vehicle has, and the second is whether it is sitting level. A car that is level is far less urgent than one that is not.
Ride height sensors are the usual origin, following the family's rule, and their position explains it: mounted at the suspension arms, they move constantly, sit in the road spray and salt, and have short links that corrode, seize or break. A single sensor reporting an impossible height invalidates the whole system's picture.
One thing worth checking before parts are considered: these sensors are calibrated to the vehicle's reference height, so suspension work, a spring change or altered ride height without recalibration produces exactly this.
