Mirror Control Module
The local hub inside a door mirror. A modern mirror is no longer just a mirror: it may hold adjustment motors, a heater, a folding motor, a memory position, an indicator repeater, a puddle lamp, an auto-dimming element, a blind spot radar or antenna, and a surround-view camera.
So losing it removes far more than mirror adjustment — heating that no longer demists, folding that stops working (which matters in an automatic car wash or a narrow street), a dead indicator repeater, and on equipped vehicles the loss of blind spot warning or a quadrant of the surround-view image. Blind spot warning is the one to flag to a driver, since somebody used to relying on it should know it is not there.
Everything reaching the mirror passes through the door harness boot, so that is the dominant cause. Impact is the close second and is specific to mirrors — a knock, a mirror folded back hard in traffic, or glass replaced after vandalism all disturb the loom and connectors inside the housing. And a cracked glass or damaged housing lets rain straight into the electronics, which is invisible until it is taken apart.
