Door Window Motor
Raises and lowers a window — and on any vehicle with one-touch operation, carries its own controller, because anti-trap protection has to be decided in milliseconds and therefore lives at the motor. It watches the current it draws and the speed it turns; an obstruction shows as a sudden rise in one and a fall in the other, and the motor stops and reverses.
The most useful thing to know is that it holds a learned picture of the window — where the end stops are and how much effort the glass normally needs at each point, so genuine obstruction can be told from ordinary friction. That memory is lost with vehicle power: a flat battery, a battery change, a jump start. A window that will only inch up while the switch is held, straight after battery work, is almost never faulty — it needs re-initialising, usually by holding the switch through a full close and open with a pause at each end. That costs nothing and resolves a large share of window complaints.
When a fault is real, suspect the mechanism before the motor. A fraying regulator cable, a dry channel or glass binding in its seals makes the motor work harder — and a motor working harder than its learned profile is exactly what the trap logic reacts to. A slow, groaning window setting a code is a mechanical problem being reported electrically.
