The vehicle drives normally, but the specialist equipment fitted to it — a tail-lift, ramp, crane, emergency lighting, refrigeration or similar — may have stopped working.
The most useful thing to know: this module was probably fitted by whoever converted the vehicle, not by the manufacturer. Take it to the converter or a specialist who has their wiring diagrams. A main dealer may have neither the documentation nor the equipment for it, and going there first is a common way to spend money without getting anywhere.
Before using the vehicle, consider whether it is still fit for its job. If the equipment that has stopped is a wheelchair lift, an access ramp, restraints or emergency lighting, the vehicle may not be usable for its purpose even though it drives perfectly — that is worth establishing before a journey rather than after.
Converted equipment is usually mounted under the floor or behind body panels where loads and road spray reach it, so damage and corrosion to the wiring are far likelier than the module failing on its own.

"Special purpose vehicle" is the standard's term for equipment fitted for a role rather than for transport, and the population is broad: ambulances and fire appliances, police vehicles, recovery trucks, refuse vehicles, tippers, cranes and tail-lifts, mobility conversions, refrigerated bodies, and welfare or utility conversions.
The single most important thing about this code is that the module is very likely not the vehicle manufacturer's, and that changes who should look at it. A base vehicle leaves the factory with provision for a converter to add equipment; the converter's module, wiring and documentation are a separate body of work, and a main dealer may have neither the diagrams nor the tooling for it.
So the first question is who built the body, and the answer determines where the vehicle should go. Taking a converted vehicle to the base manufacturer's dealer for a fault in converted equipment is a common way to spend money without progress.
The second consideration is that on many of these vehicles the equipment is not optional in a safety sense. A tail-lift, a wheelchair restraint system, an access ramp or emergency lighting is the reason the vehicle exists, and losing it can make the vehicle unfit for its role even though it drives perfectly. Whether the vehicle can be used at all is a question for the operator rather than a diagnostic one, but it should be asked early rather than after a wasted journey.
Physically, converted equipment lives outside the base vehicle's protected areas — under the floor, behind body panels, in the path of loads — and is wired by a second party. Damage, corrosion and installation quality dominate over component failure, and the U0204 reasoning about working vehicles applies in full.
