Wat te doen
Look under the vehicle around the reductant tank and lines for white crystalline deposits. Reductant fluid dries to a distinctive white crust, and finding it means a leak rather than a sensor fault — which is worth telling the garage before they start.
Say roughly how often you top the tank up and whether that has changed. If consumption has gone up, the fluid is going somewhere; if the level never seems to drop, it may not be dosing at all. Either points away from the sensor.
Mention whether the gauge or the range display behaves oddly — jumping, or not moving for a long time then dropping suddenly.
Do not ignore it. The system uses this reading to check itself, so several other faults follow from it, and the emissions inducement sequence eventually limits the vehicle.
Wat deze code betekent
The reductant level sensor is reporting a value that is electrically valid but not credible.
Level in a reductant tank is measured more carefully than fuel level, and for a reason that shapes this whole diagnosis. The module does not merely display it — it compares the level falling against the dose it commanded. That comparison is how the system detects a leak, a blocked injector, or a tampering device, so a level sensor that lies breaks several other checks at once.
Range/performance means the reading is present and wrong. The classic evidence:
- A level that does not fall while the system is demonstrably dosing.
- A level that jumps rather than moves smoothly, which a float cannot physically do.
- A level that rises without anyone filling the tank.
Many of these sensors are combined units measuring level, temperature and often quality in one assembly, which means a fault reported as level can be an assembly fault — and it is worth checking whether temperature and quality readings from the same unit are also implausible.
Before condemning it, consider that the reading may be honest. A tank that genuinely is not emptying points at an injector not dosing, and a level that falls faster than commanded points at a leak — which leaves visible white crystalline deposits under the vehicle.
Look underneath for those deposits. They are unmistakable and they change the diagnosis completely.
