Low fuel light on with fuel in the tank
The low fuel warning appears when the tank is not low, or fails to appear when it is. The gauge and the warning are both driven by a float arm sweeping a resistive track inside the tank, and that track wears where the float spends most of its life — which is the middle. So a tank that reads correctly full and correctly empty can still be wrong everywhere in between, and the warning is the part drivers notice first. Note whether the needle also swings while cornering: a float fouling on something moves differently from a track that has worn through.
