What to do

Ask for the connector to be checked for transmission fluid as well as corrosion. Fluid wicks along the wires into the plug and bridges the terminals, and a new sensor fitted into a contaminated connector fails the same way.

Expect a shudder at steady speed, or the gearbox feeling like it is not settling into top. Both follow from this fault and are not separate problems.

Ask for the transmission to be re-scanned after the repair. This sensor is used to detect slipping, so while it is faulty a real gearbox problem can be hidden — checking again afterwards is worth asking for.

Say when the fluid was last changed.

What this code means

The input speed sensor's signal is below the lowest voltage the circuit should produce.

This sensor measures the speed of the torque converter's turbine — the transmission's input — and it is the other half of every ratio calculation in the gearbox. Input divided by output gives the ratio; without input, none of that arithmetic works.

Which is why a fault here silences several monitors at once. Gear ratio checks, slip detection and torque converter lock-up monitoring all stop, so a car with this code often has fewer transmission codes than it should rather than more.

That is worth knowing when reading a scan report. An input speed fault can mask a slipping element, because the measurement that would have caught it is unavailable. Fix this first, then re-check.

A signal pinned low means a short to ground, an open, or a collapsed supply. The location supplies the usual suspects: transmission fluid wicking into the connector, swarf on a magnetic sensor, or a harness strained by the gearbox rocking on its mounts.

One consequence is immediately noticeable and worth predicting for the driver. Without input speed the module cannot manage torque converter lock-up smoothly, so expect a shudder at steady cruise or lock-up disabled altogether — and expect fuel consumption to rise as a result.
