P0A36: Generator Temperature Sensor Circuit
What to do
Wiring and connectors first, as with all of this range's temperature circuits. If the engine seems to run more often than it used to, that can be the module charging cautiously without this sensor — it should return to normal with the repair.
What this code means
The generator's temperature sensor circuit has failed.
The generator lives in the same transaxle as the drive motor, sheds its heat into the same fluid, and its thermistor fails the same ways for the same reasons — so the whole P0A2A picture transfers: circuit codes are electrical, the wiring outside the transaxle fails far more often than the sensor inside it, and the module substitutes caution for the missing reading.
Because this machine does the engine starting and the charging, caution here can look slightly different: some vehicles limit charging harder when they cannot see the generator's temperature, which shows as the engine running more often to keep the battery topped up.
