P2213: NOx Sensor Circuit Bank 2
What to do
The car drives normally and the inducement countdown described under P2200 applies — this needs dealing with while it is still a warning. If the equivalent bank 1 code is stored too, say so before any parts are agreed. Two of these sensors failing at once is unlikely, and a shared fuse, supply or wiring fault is both far more probable and far cheaper than replacing two of the most expensive sensors on the vehicle.
What this code means
A circuit fault in the NOx sensor watching the second exhaust bank. Everything about what these sensors do, why they are expensive, why they cannot be tested with a multimeter and why a fault has a legal deadline attached is set out at P2200 and applies unchanged.
Three things are specific to having two banks, and all three are free to establish.
Which engines have one. A second bank means two separate exhaust streams, so these codes belong to V and flat engines. On an inline engine they should not appear at all — and if one does, the more likely explanation is a module that has been replaced or reprogrammed with configuration data for the wrong variant than a sensor nobody can find. That is worth checking before a part is ordered for a bank the engine does not have.
Both banks together means something different from one bank alone. Two NOx sensors do not usually fail at the same moment, so simultaneous faults point at what they share: a supply, a fuse, the data bus they both report on, or the module reading both. This is the argument the corpus returns to more than any other, and it matters more here than almost anywhere else in the corpus, because the parts wrongly implicated are among the most expensive sensors on the vehicle. Two of them replaced for one shared fault is a serious bill for nothing.
And the second sensor is a free cross-check. Both banks see the same engine, the same fuel and broadly the same conditions, so their readings should track one another. A bank whose readings are persistently different while its circuit tests healthy is reporting something real about that bank's aftertreatment — its dosing, its catalyst — rather than about itself. That comparison costs nothing and is the same reasoning applied to paired sensors throughout this range.
