P2622: Throttle Position Output Circuit High
What to do
The engine responds to the pedal as usual, but the gearbox holds onto gears far too long, revs higher than it should in ordinary driving and drops a gear at the slightest press. Fuel consumption will be noticeably worse.
The distinction worth passing on is that the engine and the transmission disagree about what the throttle is doing, and the engine is the one that is right. A scan tool showing the two modules' throttle readings side by side makes that obvious in seconds, and it means no part of the throttle system or the gearbox needs replacing — the wiring between the modules does.
What this code means
The throttle position output circuit reads above its valid range — an open circuit, or a short to supply.
Where a short to supply holds the line at the top of its range, the mirror image of P2621 results: the transmission is told the throttle is wide open whatever the driver is doing. It therefore holds low gears far longer than necessary, delays upshifts, and downshifts on the lightest throttle — which feels like a car permanently in a hurry, revs high in normal driving, and shows up quickly in fuel consumption.
An open circuit gives the same picture as P2620: no signal, and a receiving module operating on a default.
As elsewhere in this family, the throttle body, pedal and position sensor are all demonstrably working, since the engine responds normally to the accelerator.
