What to do

Isolate the body equipment before doing anything else, and do not operate it until this is fixed.

Full battery voltage has got onto a network wire, and every computer on that network is connected to it — see U0005.

On a converted or commercial vehicle this is more serious than on a car, and the reason is the current available. A tail-lift, crane, tipper pump or winch runs on very heavy cable, and that cable is often routed alongside the network wiring, under the vehicle where road damage and corrosion reach it. A network wire touching a lighting circuit is a fault. One touching a winch feed is a fault fed by a cable that will not blow a fuse before the damage is done.

So expect the repair to have two stages — the short found and fixed, and then an assessment of what survived — and treat that as likely rather than possible.

One free test comes first: disconnect the body equipment and re-check. On this kind of vehicle that genuinely isolates half the wiring, which makes it a more decisive test than it would be on a car.

Contact whoever converted the vehicle, since that wiring is theirs.

What this code means

The positive line of vehicle communication bus F is being held high. See U0005 for the module-damage warning — battery voltage on a bus wire can destroy the transceiver in every module on that network, so the repair may have two stages.

On a converted vehicle this fault has a source cars do not have: high-current body circuits.

A tail-lift, a crane, a tipper pump or a winch draws tens or hundreds of amps, on cable sized accordingly, run by whoever built the body. That cable is often in the same run as the network wiring, and it is under a vehicle rather than inside a cabin — so chafe, road damage and corrosion all reach it.

And the consequence scales with the current. A network wire chafed against a lighting circuit is a fault. One chafed against a winch feed is a fault applied through a cable that will not blow a fuse before the transceivers are gone.

So on this kind of vehicle the two-stage warning at U0005 is not a possibility but an expectation, and the sequence matters: isolate the body equipment, find the short, then assess what survived.

And the free first test remains: disconnect the body equipment and re-check. On a converted vehicle that is a genuine isolation of one half of the wiring, and it is more decisive than it is on a car.
