DDiS is a badge, not an engine, and Suzuki did not design any of the engines wearing it.
That is the whole point of this page, and our own rows prove it: the codes under the badge are D13A and D19A — Fiat's Small Diesel and its larger relative — and DV4, DV6ATED4 — PSA's. Suzuki bought its diesels, and the badge covers 0.8 to 2.0 litres from two different suppliers.
So a Swift DDiS has a Fiat engine and a Vitara DDiS may have a Peugeot one, and neither car says so. The useful literature is Italian or French, filed under MultiJet or HDi, and both of those have pages here.
Establish the code. It is on the engine, and it is the difference between reading about the right engine and the wrong one.
The 1.3's own faults are the Fiat family's: swirl-flap actuators seizing on carbon, giving a limp mode and a manifold fault code; and injectors whose seals let combustion gases into the head recess and weld them in place — which turns a routine job into a very expensive one and is the argument for acting on a knock at idle rather than living with it.
