U0302: Incompatibilidade de software com o módulo de controle da transmissão
O que fazer
Limp mode here does not mean your gearbox has failed. Nothing is broken at all.
This code means the engine computer and the gearbox computer are each working correctly and running software that does not belong together. They exchange torque figures several times a second to schedule every gear change, and when they no longer agree about what those figures mean, the car sensibly refuses to shift on a number it cannot trust — so you get a fixed gear or reduced power. That is protection, not damage.
Do not agree to a transmission overhaul or a replacement gearbox on the strength of this. If the gearbox felt completely normal until a module was changed or a software update was done, it has not broken in between.
Two things worth saying to the garage.
If a second-hand gearbox computer has been fitted, mention it. That is the commonest cause here — a used module arrives with the software of the car it came out of, and a matching part number is not enough.
And after any reprogramming, ask whether the adaptations were reset and relearned. The gearbox computer holds learned values for how it fills and releases its clutches, and those belong to the old software. A gearbox that shifts harshly right after a software fix is usually a relearn that was skipped — which costs nothing to complete and is often mistaken for a new fault.
O que este código significa
A module is running software that does not belong with the transmission control module's. See U0300 for the family and U0301 for why the named module is not the accused.
The engine and transmission pair is where this code appears most, and the reason is that they hold the most detailed conversation on the vehicle. The engine reports the torque it is producing; the transmission schedules its shifts and sets its clutch pressures from that figure, and asks the engine to reduce it during a shift — the exchange described at P2637, happening several times a second.
A conversation that precise depends on both ends agreeing about more than the number. Scaling, resolution, units and the meaning of edge values all change between calibration versions, and a transmission acting on a torque figure it has interpreted at the wrong scale will command clutch pressures for an engine that is not there.
So the vehicle does the right thing and refuses to shift on a figure it cannot trust: a fixed gear, or limp mode. And the standing warning applies with full force — that is protection, not a failed gearbox. A transmission that felt perfect until a module was replaced or a software update was applied has not developed a mechanical fault in that time.
Two things specific to transmission modules are worth knowing before any work is authorised.
A second-hand transmission module is the classic route into this code, because it is the module people most often try to save money on. It arrives at whatever software level the donor vehicle was on, and a matching part number does not settle it.
And software level is not the end of the job. A transmission module holds learned adaptation values — clutch fill times, pressure corrections, shift overlap — and those are specific to the software as well as to the gearbox. After any reprogramming they must be reset and relearned, or the vehicle shifts badly on corrections that no longer mean what they meant. A harsh-shifting gearbox immediately after a software fix is very often a relearn that was skipped, and it is free to complete.
