Say when the oil was last changed and what grade went in. Ask for the camshaft oil control solenoid's filter screen to be checked and cleaned. It is a fine mesh that clogs with sludge, it is the commonest cause in this family, and it is usually free to clean.
Say whether the fault is worse from cold and improves as the engine warms. That points firmly at oil rather than hardware, and it is the most useful thing you can report.
Mention any rattle from the engine on startup, which would suggest the timing chain instead.
What this code means
The intake camshaft phaser on bank 1 is moving to its commanded position too slowly.
The single most useful thing to know about this family is that it is an oil fault far more often than a timing fault. A variable valve timing phaser is not driven by a motor — it is a hydraulic device, moved by engine oil pressure directed through a control solenoid. The module commands an angle, the solenoid meters oil into one side of the phaser, and the camshaft rotates against the chain.
So anything that degrades oil delivery slows the phaser, and the module measures exactly that: commanded angle against actual angle, over time.
Slow response is not the same as stuck, and the distinction matters. The phaser gets there; it takes too long. That points at restricted flow rather than a seized mechanism.
Check the oil control solenoid's filter screen before anything else. Most carry a fine mesh screen that clogs with sludge, and it is the commonest cause of this entire family by a wide margin — cleanable in minutes, and free.
Then check the oil itself. Wrong viscosity, degraded oil, or a low level all slow a phaser, and an oil change with the correct grade is a legitimate diagnostic step rather than a formality. The fault is usually worse when cold, because thick oil moves more slowly — which is itself a clue that oil rather than hardware is at fault.
