P0841: Transmission Fluid Pressure Sensor/Switch A Circuit Range/Performance
What to do
Ask whether the measured pressure was above or below what was commanded, and whether this code appeared with or without a slipping complaint. Low pressure with slipping points at fluid, filter, pump or valve body — all far cheaper than a rebuild. Correct pressure with slipping is the one combination that genuinely implicates the clutches.
What this code means
The pressure reading is electrically valid but does not match what the module commanded — pressure present when it should not be, absent when it should, or simply a different figure from the one asked for.
This is the most diagnostically useful code in the family, because it is the transmission reporting a genuine hydraulic discrepancy rather than an electrical one. Where a slipping complaint has been met with a proposal to rebuild the gearbox, this code stored alongside it is direct evidence that the pressure applying the clutches was wrong — which is a pump, filter, valve body or fluid problem long before it is a clutch problem.
The converse case is worth naming too. Pressure that reads correct while the transmission slips is equally informative in the opposite direction: the hydraulics delivered what was asked and the clutches still did not hold, which is one of the few observations that genuinely does point inside.
