Expect the car to cut electric drive rather than derate gently: an inverter that cannot measure its phase currents is safer switched off. High-voltage work throughout; nothing here is a home job.

The split that matters is instrument versus reading. This family says the measuring circuit has failed; the P0A5D family says the machine is genuinely drawing the wrong current. A workshop that treats them as the same code can replace a motor for a sensor fault — and the motor is the most expensive part on the car after the battery.

Why per-phase current sensors exist at all: the inverter does not simply switch the motor on. It synthesises a rotating magnetic field, and to place that field correctly it must know, continuously and in real time, how much current is flowing in each phase. Lose one of those measurements and the inverter is steering blind — it mistimes its switching, which produces torque ripple, heat, and often a protective shutdown. The motor can be in perfect condition and the car still undriveable.
