Was zu tun ist
A car that can name a single cell group is a car whose repair may be a module rather than a battery — that is the useful thing to take from this code. So two questions are worth asking before agreeing to anything: whether the sense wiring has been eliminated, and whether module-level replacement is supported on this vehicle. Both change the bill by an order of magnitude. Nothing inside a traction pack is a home job.
Was dieser Code bedeutet
One of the traction battery's cell-group voltage sense circuits is faulty. There are twenty-six of them, A through Z, and the reason there are so many is the whole of what this family is about.
A battery pack is a long series string, and its total voltage is nearly useless as a measure of its health. Two hundred cells in series produce much the same total whether every one is equal or one section is collapsing while the others quietly carry it. So the pack is tapped between cell groups and each group's voltage is read separately — and where the pack-level circuits at P0B14 and P0ABA measure the whole string at a handful of points, these measure the groups. Twenty-six of them is a much finer instrument, and it is what allows a fault to be located to a module rather than to a battery.
Which is why this family is good news disguised as bad. A car that can name cell group Q is a car whose repair can be a module; a car that can only say "the pack" tends to be quoted a pack. The more of these codes a vehicle is capable of setting, the smaller its likely repair.
The measurement also has a job beyond diagnosis: balancing. Cells drift apart as they age, and the module levels them by bleeding charge from whichever groups run high — decisions made entirely on these readings. So a sense circuit that lies does not merely mis-report; it makes the module balance against a group that was never out of line, which is a slow harm that continues for as long as the fault is left.
And the trap is the one at P0B14, sharpened. A sense line that has gone high-resistance and a genuinely weak cell group produce the same number, and the module cannot tell them apart. The discriminator is behavioural rather than numerical: a cell group has enormous electrical inertia — it changes slowly, moves with load and temperature, and stays inside what chemistry allows. A faulty sense line steps instantly, moves with vibration, or reports a value no cell could hold. These are also the only thin wires in the high-voltage system, on small connectors inside a sealed box that vibrates and heats for the life of the car, so they fret and corrode where the heavy hardware never does.
