TDCi is a badge, not an engine. Ford applies it to any common-rail turbodiesel, and our own rows show it spanning 1.5 to 3.2 litres in Ford and Land Rover.
⚑ The codes underneath tell the story the badge hides: DV6, DW10 and DW12 are PSA engines. Ford and PSA built diesels together for two decades, so a Focus or a Fiesta TDCi very often has a Peugeot engine — and its best service literature is French and filed under a name the car never mentions. The DLD-415, DLD-416 and DLD-418 are that joint programme's own designations for the same families.
So "my Ford TDCi" identifies nothing. Establish the code and go to that family's page — several of them are already here.
What the badge does mean reliably is a common-rail diesel with a DPF on anything recent, and the ordinary consequences follow: short journeys ruin the filter and the EGR, and on the PSA-derived 1.6 particularly, the turbo's oil feed passes through a fine gauze strainer that blocks with carbon — which starves the turbo and is the single best-known failure in this family. Changing the oil on schedule and replacing that strainer with the turbo is the whole of the prevention.
