Check what else has stopped working before deciding this is only about the stereo.
On most cars built in the last ten years, the unit in the middle of the dashboard is not a radio — it very often runs the heater and air conditioning controls, the reversing camera, the parking display and the car's settings menus as well. So check those; they decide how urgent this is.
The single most useful thing you can say is whether the stereo is the original one, because this is the one fault in this family that owners usually cause themselves.
If a non-original head unit was fitted, it needs a proper vehicle-specific interface module to translate between it and the car. Fitted without one — or with a cheap generic adapter — the car is left sending messages nothing answers, and two things follow that the installer probably did not mention: the car may never fully switch off, flattening the battery over a few days, and other systems start reporting faults that have nothing to do with them.
If a second-hand original unit was fitted from another car of the same model, mention that too. On many cars it has to be programmed to your car — sometimes because it is tied to the immobiliser — and some simply cannot be re-used at all.
The fix is the interface or the coding, not chasing the odd faults it causes elsewhere. The car is safe to drive; if the reversing camera has gone, use your mirrors.

This is the member of the family a private owner is most likely to meet, and the reason is simple: the head unit is the module people replace themselves.
Every other module in this range is changed by a workshop, under some sort of procedure. A stereo is changed on a driveway, or bought second-hand from a scrapyard, or upgraded to the version from a higher-specification model — and all three arrive carrying software written for a different vehicle.
What makes a mismatch here reach beyond entertainment is what the unit carries. On most vehicles built in the last decade it also holds the climate controls, the reversing camera and parking display, the vehicle settings menus and the phone connection — so the radio has a fault is a description that understates it. Check what else has gone before deciding how urgent this is.
Two routes account for nearly all of these.
A non-original head unit fitted without a proper vehicle-specific interface. The vehicle sends messages nothing answers and receives replies it cannot use. Two consequences follow that installers rarely mention: the network may never sleep, which flattens the battery over a few days, and the vehicle's own diagnostics become unreliable in ways blamed on unrelated systems.
An original unit from another car of the same model. These are frequently tied to the donor vehicle's identity and on many designs to its immobiliser, so it must be programmed to this vehicle rather than plugged in — and some cannot be re-used at all.
The remedy is the interface module the installation should have included, or coding the unit properly. Chasing the symptoms it produces elsewhere is the expensive alternative.
