Que faire

Expect the car to behave oddly rather than to fail — and "oddly" is the clue.

The body computer is where your car's specification is stored: how many doors it has, whether it has heated seats, folding mirrors, automatic lights, keyless entry, a towbar, and which country's lighting and locking rules it follows.

So when its software does not match the rest of the car, the symptoms are strange rather than broken. Equipment you definitely have stops working because the car has been told it does not exist. Faults appear for equipment you do not have. And the car may start behaving like one sold in a different country — indicators flashing differently, doors locking at a different speed, lights staying on when they should not.

That last one is the giveaway. A car that has started behaving like a foreign-market version has a settings problem, not an electrical one, and no amount of testing wiring will find it.

Two things to mention. Has the body computer been replaced, especially with a second-hand one? That is the commonest cause — and it is a part people fit while chasing electrical gremlins, which often makes things worse rather than better. And has anything been retrofitted — a towbar, a camera, upgraded lights — and wired in without the car being told about it?

No part is needed. The fix is writing your car's original build specification back into the module, which the manufacturer holds against its VIN.

Ce que signifie ce code

A module is running software that does not belong with the body control module's. See U0300 for the family and U0140 for what the body module does.

The body control module is where a vehicle's option list lives, and that makes a mismatch here look different from every other member of this family.

Most modules run software describing how to do a job. This one runs software describing what the vehicle is — how many doors, whether there are heated seats, folding mirrors, rain sensing, automatic lights, a powered tailgate, keyless entry, a towbar, which market's lighting and locking rules apply.

So the symptoms are not failures. They are disagreements about the vehicle's own specification, and they read as arbitrary:

  • Equipment the vehicle has that no longer works, because the module has been told it does not exist.
  • Equipment the vehicle does not have that is now expected, producing faults for absent hardware.
  • Behaviour from another market — indicators that flash differently, doors that lock at a different speed, lights that stay on when they should not.

That last group is the recognisable signature. A vehicle that has started behaving like a car sold somewhere else has a configuration problem, not an electrical one, and no amount of testing wiring will find it.

Two routes account for most of these. A second-hand body module, which arrives describing the donor vehicle rather than this one — and it is a module people replace to chase electrical gremlins, so it is often fitted in pursuit of a fault it then creates a worse version of. And a retrofit that was wired but not configured, which is the U0300 fourth route in its commonest form.

The fix is the vehicle's build data, which the manufacturer holds against its identification number, written back to the module. Nothing is bought.
