P0E5F: Temperatuur A van de laadconnector — te hoog

Wat te doen

Feel the charging plug and cable after a charge — carefully. If they are uncomfortably hot, stop using that cable or socket until both have been checked.

Your car has slowed or stopped charging because the connector is getting too hot. That is the protection working, and the cause is often not the car.

Try a different cable, and a different charge point, before anything else. Worn or dirty contacts, a plug not pushed fully home, or a damaged cable all concentrate heat exactly where the sensor is. Domestic sockets are a common cause — they were never designed to deliver near-maximum current for hours, and a worn one is a genuine fire risk.

Check the car's charging inlet for dirt or debris, and note whether it only happens in hot weather or direct sun. Charging in the shade or overnight may work perfectly, which is useful information and not a fault.

If it happens on every cable and every charge point, then it is the car — the inlet or its sensor — and that needs a qualified electric-vehicle technician.

Wat deze code betekent

The charging coupler temperature sensor A is reporting a temperature that is too high.

This code has a specific and reassuring meaning: the car has stopped or slowed charging because the plug is getting hot.

The coupler is the connector itself — the inlet on the car and the plug that goes into it. High current through any connection generates heat at the contact faces, and a charging connector carries very large currents for hours at a time, so it is temperature-monitored as a matter of course.

When it gets too hot, the car reduces charging current or stops charging altogether. That is the protection working, and it is protecting against a real hazard: an overheating connector is how charging equipment causes fires.

Three causes, and the first is not the car.

  • Resistance at the contacts. Worn, dirty or corroded pins, or a plug not pushed fully home, concentrate heat exactly where this sensor is. A cheap or damaged cable is a common culprit, and so is a socket at the wall end that is not rated for continuous high current.
  • Ambient conditions. Charging in direct sunlight on a hot day, or with the inlet full of debris, leaves less thermal headroom. A car that charges normally at night and derates at midday is describing this, and it is not a fault.
  • The sensor or its wiring. The last conclusion rather than the first, because the other two are far more common and far cheaper.

Take a hot charging plug seriously. If the connector or cable is uncomfortably warm to touch, stop using that cable or that socket and have both checked. Domestic sockets in particular are not designed for hours of near-maximum current, and a worn one is a genuine fire risk regardless of what the car reports.

This code was a deliberate stop in this corpus for months — the standard assigns it, but no second source could be reached to confirm the subject. Three unrelated manufacturers' service bulletins now place it in exactly this territory, which is what allowed it to be written.
