P2713: Drukregelmagneetventiel D
Wat te doen
The car may lock into one gear — that is limp mode protecting the transmission, not the gearbox failing. It will drive gently at low speed but should not be taken far. Check the transmission fluid level and condition first; low or burnt fluid causes a lot of these and is the cheap end of the list. Get it diagnosed before driving normally again.
Wat deze code betekent
Pressure control solenoid D has a fault.
A pressure control solenoid is a valve the module can set to any position, not just open or shut.
That is what separates a modern automatic from an old one. A plain shift solenoid switches a passage; a pressure control solenoid — a variable-force solenoid — regulates how hard a clutch is applied, by varying current through a coil that opposes a spring. The module can therefore ramp an element on gently at low throttle and slam it on at full throttle, using the same hardware.
Modern transmissions carry many of them — an eight or ten speed unit needs one per element plus line pressure and torque converter control — which is why the standard ran out of letters in the P0700 range and continued here.
They live inside the transmission, in the valve body, submerged in the fluid. So they are reached by dropping the pan, they are exposed to every particle the fluid carries, and contamination jams them far more often than the coil fails.
This is the family's base code, reported when the module cannot place the fault in a more specific category. Read every stored code before acting — a base code beside a specific one is a consequence, and alone it usually points at fluid, pressure or contamination rather than the coil.
What a driver notices is usually limp mode. With a control fault the module stops trusting its own hydraulics and locks the transmission into a single gear — commonly third or fourth — so the car still moves but will not change gear, feels sluggish from rest and revs hard at speed. That is protection working, not the gearbox failing.
Transmission fluid is the first thing to check and the thing most often skipped.
It is not a lubricant that also happens to move things — it is the working fluid of a hydraulic machine. It carries the pressure that applies every clutch, it carries the heat away, it lubricates, and it is the friction surface itself: the additive package is tuned so clutches grip smoothly rather than snatching.
So fluid that is low, old, burnt or of the wrong specification changes how the transmission behaves, and it does so before any part has failed. Burnt fluid smells burnt and looks dark; healthy fluid is translucent. Checking it costs nothing and rules out a great deal.
"Filled for life" is a claim about the warranty, not the transmission. Many sealed units have no dipstick and a manufacturer schedule that never changes the fluid, and they still wear out faster on original fluid than on serviced fluid.
Which clutch solenoid D controls is vehicle-specific. The standard letters the solenoids without saying which element each one feeds, and manufacturers assign them differently. Only the vehicle's own documentation maps the letter to a part.
