Brake earlier and more firmly than usual until you have got used to the pedal, and allow extra distance — especially in traffic.
Nothing is broken and the car will stop. But the brake pedal will feel different, and that is what catches people out on the first junction.
On a hybrid or electric car most normal braking is done by the motor, recovering energy into the battery, with the actual brakes filling in the rest. The blend is invisible, and the feel under your foot is produced artificially so that you never notice it. This code takes the car out of that arrangement and back to ordinary friction braking. Safe, and not what your foot has learned.
Two other things to expect. Your range or economy will drop noticeably, because the recovery has stopped. And if you normally drive with one pedal — lifting off to slow down — that has gone. The car will now coast where it used to slow, which is a real hazard if you have stopped using the brake pedal much. Use it deliberately.
Your brakes are also now doing all the work they had been spared, so expect faster pad wear, and possibly some surface rust and noise from discs that have had an easy life.
This is a programming job rather than a repair. Mention anything done to the car recently.
Wat deze code betekent
A module is running software that does not belong with the brake system control module's. See U0300 for the family and U0315 for the anti-lock foundation.
On a vehicle with a brake system control module the pedal is doing something more interesting than pushing fluid, and understanding that explains what a mismatch changes.
On a hybrid or electric vehicle most ordinary braking is done by the motor, recovering energy into the battery, with the friction brakes filling in whatever the motor cannot supply. The blend between the two is continuous, and the driver must not be able to feel it happen — so the pedal is measured rather than obeyed, and the feedback under the driver's foot is produced by a simulator rather than by the brakes themselves.
A software mismatch takes the vehicle out of that arrangement and back to friction braking alone. Which is safe, and is what every car did until recently — but it is not what the driver's foot has learned.
So the honest warning is about pedal feel rather than stopping power. Expect a pedal that is harder, longer, or simply different, and expect the first stop to be judged wrongly. Brake earlier and more deliberately until the new pedal is familiar, particularly in traffic.
Two consequences follow that are worth knowing. Regenerative braking has gone, so range or economy drops noticeably — and on a one-pedal-driving vehicle, lifting off will no longer slow the car the way it did, which is a genuine hazard for a driver who has stopped using the brake pedal much. And the friction brakes are now doing all the work they had been spared, so a vehicle whose discs have led a sheltered life will wear them fast and may show surface rust and noise within days.
On a conventional vehicle this module is the electronic brake booster or the assistance controller, and the same warning applies in a simpler form: the pedal will feel different, and stopping distances may be longer until it is fixed.
